Rohit Varma is an associate professor of Ophthalmology at USC Keck School of Medicine. He also holds faculty appointments in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics, the Stein Eye Institute and the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute. Varma is director of ophthalmic epidemiology in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics, where he leads a staff team conducting research and providing services in eye diseases affecting children and urban communities.

From leading procedures in the treatment of eye disease to performing clinical research on antiretroviral drug prevention and treatment, Rohit Varma M.D., MPH, is a highly respected ophthalmologist, he is being a researcher and ophthalmologist at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital who has been recognized by his peers in major publications such as "Best Doctors in America" and "Washingtonian Magazine's Best Doctors.

Rohit Varma is a highly recognized researcher and professor. He has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has written or edited three books on various subjects including ophthalmology, genetics, and public health. Dr. Rohit Varma's focuses research on several different areas, including the identification of genes that contribute to high risk for glaucoma, the identification of genes affecting the risk for macular degeneration, and the use of dietary supplements to prevent age-related macular degeneration. In addition, Dr. Varma is the author and editor of more than 200 scientific papers and book chapters, has received three US patents on biomedical devices and one for a medical diagnostic test, and has lectured on glaucoma around the world. He holds several major patents.

Rohit Varma, MD, PhD, has been selected to receive the Best Resident Research Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Rohit will be recognized on October 21st at the Academy's annual meeting in Los Angeles. Rohit Varma, MD, has joined the Salk Institute for Biological Studies as president and CEO, effective September 1, 2015. Dr. Varma most recently served as president and dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC. As a leader in treating macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other retinal diseases, Rohit Varma has dedicated his career to providing excellent vision care for his patients. Dr. Rohit Varma graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX and completed residency in Ophthalmology at the internationally renowned Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.
He completed two glaucoma fellowships, one at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and the other at Keck School of Medicine of USC. He is a native of India, where he obtained his medical degree from the University of Delhi.
